Shrule Abbey

Shrule Abbey stands as a ruined Celtic monastic site in County Mayo, traditionally founded by Saint Patrick in the 5th century and later governed by Annaghdown Abbey. The earth still holds a rectangular mound of masonry rubble where Cloghvanaha once thrived, marking the place where Christianity first took root beside the Black River. What is lost is not forgotten; it is buried beneath grass and time, waiting for someone to kneel beside the stones and remember the shape of the house they covered.
