Mass-rock in Lemgare

Mass-rock

Why this matters

A local holy well or ritual site; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

Located just down from the summit of Lemgare Rocks, on the W side, and overlooking a small sheltered, flat-bottomed valley (dims c. 50m NW-SE; c. 15-20m NE-SW) that slopes down to the NW, which is just to the S. A W-facing rock face is the traditional location of a venue where Mass was celebrated in Penal times. (Ó Gallachair 1957, 113) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 25 January, 2016
