Why this matters

A local holy well or ritual site; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

In rocky pasture, on an E-facing slope. A circular flat-bottomed steep-sided depression (max. D 2m; diam. 2.2m) into which water seeps from the NW. A deep steep-sided outflow channel (D 1.4m; Wth top 2.9m, Wth base 0.2m) extends for 9m from the SE side of the depression terminating at a modern water trough. The outflow has been partially infilled and a pipe has been laid at the base to carry water to the trough. There is no evidence of any recent use. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
