Two polished marble funerary monuments, both erected c.1917 and having additional inscriptions added c.1934 and c.1945, dedicated to Nesbitt and Gault families. Located in graveyard of McKelvey’s Grove Presbyterian church. Tapering square-plan polished marble pillar dedicated to Nesbitt, set on square-plan base. Carved marble capital with inscribed scroll ornament to tympana of four round arches, surmounted by carved marble urn. Pillar set to eastern end of plain chamfered kerb, grave extending west. Situated to east of church. Round carved brown marble column on carved granite plinth dedicated to Gault. Carved red marble capital, with inscribed scroll ornament to tympana of four round arches, surmounted by carved marble urn with inscribed fluted lines to body. Set to west end of grave bordered by granite kerbs with square-plan piers to each corner. Situated to west of steps approaching church.
These two marble funerary monuments are prominently located in the graveyard to the south and east of McKelveys Grove Presbyterian church. These sober funerary monuments are typical of Presbyterian memorials, these consisting largely of a marble shaft or pier, crowned by an urn or acorn shape, set bordered by a low kerb. The formality of the urn motif on the simple shaft is enlivened by the scrolled tympana. The similarities between these two memorials may indicate a connection between the two families, or may be the product of a single craftsman.
