Temple Bar was originally a medieval gatehouse at the western end of the City of London, marking the boundary between the City and Westminster. It was demolished in 1878 but later rebuilt in the 1970s near its original site, serving as a memorial and symbol of the historic divide between the financial and political centres of London.
