What is recorded here

In low-lying grassland, c. 100m W of Lough Hacket. Rectangular moated site (E-W 41m, N-S 27m), in fair condition, defined by two banks of earth and stone and an intervening fosse. The outer bank is present only intermittently. In NW corner of the interior is a square platform (L/Wth 8m), probably the remains of an associated building. Possible leat at NE. A similar moated site (GA042-227----) lies c. 100m to NW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
