Walter Langton bronze plaque

This bronze commemorative plaque records: Under and extending along this pavement are the remains of the great bridge over the Vivarium by Bishop Walter de Langton (1296 to 1321). It lies about four feet below the pavement level. Consists of seven arches and is seven feet in width.

The Rt Rev. Walter Langton was a medieval Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield known for his administrative roles under King Edward I and his contributions to infrastructure, including the construction of the significant bridge over the River Sherbourne in Coventry.
