This commemorative plaque records: In memory of Fred Mace who lost his life on 28th February 1939 whilst on duty fighting a fire at the Empire Cinema which stood on this site. Remembered by the people of Seaford and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Recorded plaque organisation: Seaford Museum.
Fred Mace was a firefighter who died heroically while attempting to extinguish a fire at the Empire Cinema in Seaford, East Sussex, on February 28, 1939; he is remembered for his sacrifice by the local community and the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
