Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Leamcon

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Leamcon stands on an E-facing slope in County Galway, Ireland. A circular rath twenty metres wide still shows a bank and external fosse, though the east bank has vanished and briars choke parts of the ditch. It may have been a dwelling, a boundary marker or a place where people believed the fairies kept their own counsel.
On an E-facing slope in grassland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 20m) defined by a bank and external fosse. No visible surface trace of the bank survives at E and the fosse is infilled in places and overgrown with briars. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 12 January 2018
