Indicated was a solid circular fort thirty-five metres across, standing on a gravel ridge in Mayo before quarrying tore its south side away. The stolen earth exposed a hidden underground passage, revealing that the fort contained more than an empty shell. Humans built the visible wall, yet they may have reused an older tunnel or fled through it when danger came. The loss still displays the secret chamber, turning destruction into an unexpected gift.
In pasture, located on the SE-facing slope of a gravel ridge, with good views of the surrounding grassland.
This rath is shown on the 1837 OS 6-inch as an intact circular enclosure (diam. c. 35-40m), located at the W edge of Tawnamullagh td., with the western perimeter of the rath incorporated into the townland boundary, which it shares with Lagcurragh Td. to W. It has a more irregular outline on the 1919 OS 6-inch with a roughly semi-circular hachured arc delineating the E half of the rath, and the W side delineated by the undulating line of the townland boundary.
The rath has been severely damaged by quarrying. An irregular-shaped raised area (c. 35m NNE-SSW; c. 25m E−W to the field fence/td. boundary) is evident, bordered to W−NW by the zig-zag course of the field fence/townland boundary. The remains appear to represent the damaged remnants of the N and E part of the rath; the surface consists of uneven disturbed ground. The SE−S portion of the rath appears to have been entirely quarried away. Remnants of a Man-made underground passage (MA062-036001-) are exposed in section on the W side of the quarried out area, adjacent to the field fence.
