What is recorded here

Lacka holds two oval enclosures on a northwest-facing slope, one reduced to a faint scarp and the other levelled into pasture. The land has been worked so long that human hands keep erasing the evidence they once shaped. What is missing is not absence but repetition: build, forget, bury, build again.

On a NW-facing slope, in pasture 150m SW of a townland boundary with Rathmore North. An enclosure (LI022-128----) lies 95m to N. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Monument surveyed by the ASI in 2007 and described as an oval-shaped area (26m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a scarp from NNW-N-E and the remains of a levelled bank (Wth 16m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.85m) from E-ESE-SE. Monument is levelled from SE-WNW with a farmyard from WNW-NW-NNW. There are traces of an external fosse (Wth 16.2m; D 0.4m) visible from E-ESE. Monument is visible as a semicircular-shaped cropmark on OSi aerial orthoimage taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017.
