What is recorded here

Situated on an ESE-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture, overlooked by higher ground. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly rectangular-shaped earthwork cut by a laneway at E. Monument described in 1971 as a rectangular-shaped area (dims. 30.5m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank and a fosse. The bank is steep on the exterior and is almost reduced to a scarp, particularly along the E side where the monument is cut by a laneway running N-S. There is a trench along the S, W and N sides, which may have been recut along the site of the fosse. There is a disturbance gap in each corner and another in the N side. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior has a gentle E-facing slope and has cultivation ridges running E-W within. Monument is visible today as a subrectangular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.
