Enclosure in Knockphilip — Report the wrong picture

Knockphilip hid a fifty-metre circular fort within undulating Laois countryside before human activity erased its visible trace. The 1841 map still marked the enclosure, but modern feet find only grass and memory. That disappearance suggests the land itself absorbed the boundary, leaving behind a phantom shape rather than a ruin.

Marked on the 1841 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular 'fort' (max. diam. c. 50m). Situated in undulating countryside. No visible surface remains. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
