What is recorded here

Knockacareigh holds a wide oval rath where a two-metre earthen bank still encloses a pasture slope. People built the stone-faced entrance and internal boulders, yet local memory may have added fairy names because the shape feels like a room set aside from ordinary life. Cultivation ridges crossing the grass suggest the fort also fed neighbours long after its defences faded. The fortress became a field, the field became a garden, and the fairy name stayed behind like a joke told by the land.

In pasture, on ESE-facing slope. Oval area (57.9m E-W; 48.2m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (H 2m). Shallow external fosse to SW and NW; filled in to W between bank and N-S roadway. Bank partially stone-faced with boulders internally. Stone-faced entrance (Wth 4m) to E. Remains of cultivation ridges cross interior on E-W axis. Plan (UCC) shows fosse surviving to Wand N.
