Ecclesiastical enclosure

What is recorded here

On a low hillock. An overgrown oval enclosure (N-S c. 78m, E-W 65m), impossible to accurately survey owing to dense growth. It contains a CBG (GA054-039002-) in E sector. Its size, presence of CBG, townland name and local tradition of penal mass suggest that it was an E. Chr. ecclesiastical settlement. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
