Earthwork in Killiney — Report the wrong picture

Killiney holds a coastal earthwork beside a Martello tower, where a eastern bank still marks the post-1700 AD defensive line. The sea has stripped the land around them, leaving the tower standing like a broken promise against the horizon. Whatever hands built that bank worked under fear of invasion, shaping dirt into warning while the Atlantic waited patiently for its return.

The earthwork and associated martello tower are located in a coastal location, close to a beach. There is a bank shown to the east of the Martello tower and this bank is also likely to date to post-1700 AD. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout and Padraig Clancy. Revised upload on: 14 April 2018.
