What is recorded here

Fagan (Bk. 19, 6) records that 'Kill old graveyard' was already destroyed by 1847. Human bones, and stone coffins have been dug out of the site which was also apparently enclosed by 'Great standing stones'. No definite trace exists now although a short line of boulders may have originally formed part of an enclosure. In a field to the W of the site is a rock-basin carved in a boulder (DG097-013001-). The site is located on S-facing ground sloping S to the sea in fairly good pasture. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
