In the dim Lady Chapel of the Augustinian Priory, a flat stone marks the body of William Bosser, alias Busher, who died in 1522. His name still stands out in black letter beside a raised cross, waiting for boots to rub it shiny or fingers to trace the edges. He may have been a priest, a donor or a local man whose family wanted him remembered, but the chamber keeps his identity safe beneath its quiet roof.
