What is recorded here

Located in open moorland on the NW side of Inishmurray. An extensive rubble spread or low cairn lies on gently sloping moorland north of the Cashel (SL001-001001-) (the two are intervisible). The rubble spreads over an area of about 15 m east/west by 13 m north/south and is no more than 0.5 m high. On the south and east margin are short lengths of drystone walling, evidently secondary features (possibly remains of livestock pens or shelters). A few small slabs are erected or edge-set within the north-west quadrant and may be remains of an entranceway to a structure. The monument is of unknown date or type, but may be the remains of a medieval structure, a ‘lost’ leacht or even a building. The above description is derived from the survey of the archaeological remains on Inishmurray undertaken in 1997-99 and published in: J. O’Sullivan and T. Ó Carragáin 2008 Inishmurrary. Monks and pilgrims in an Atlantic landscape. Volume 1: Archaeological Survey and Excavations 1997-2000. Cork. The Collins Press.
