What is recorded here

Indicated on the 1900 revision of the 6-inch OS map as a roughly oval area (diam. c. 54m NE-SW; 42m ESE-WNW) planted with trees. It had been levelled by 1971 as it does not appear on an aerial photograph (CUCAP BGN096, 19 July 1971) taken at that time. There had been a larger tree plantation to the E and when this was cut, a roughly circular area of trees, possibly on a natural rise, c. 40m E of the tree-ring was retained. It is likely that this was visited in 1987 and was confused with the tree-ring, which by then had been levelled. The tree-ring is likely to have been a landscape feature associated with Woodsgift House and demesne. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 29 May 2019
