What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a slight rise, in an area of rolling limestone grassland bordered 100m to NW by the Deel River. This possible rath (diam. c. 30m) is shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps as a circular enclosure, incorporated on the S arc into a field boundary. The enclosing bank on the N half has been levelled, but the original curve is discernible at NNW–SE as a slight rise or undulation. At SSE–NW the bank has been replaced by or modified to serve as an earth and stone field fence (Wth 1.7m; H 0.7m), which respects the original curve of the enclosure. The original interior area is flat and featureless, and under grass. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 25 July 2019
