What is recorded here

Located on low-lying ground c. 50m W of a NNW-SSE section of the Fane River. It is depicted as a small embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 15m) described as a ‘fort’ in gothic lettering on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as an equally small enclosure incorporated into a NE-SW field bank on the 1907 edition. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture on any aerial images (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 6 December 2017
