What is recorded here
Situated on flat poorly drained land beside small stream with church and graveyard (OF043-023001-/002-) to SSE. Present remains consist of a heavily overgrown flat-topped mound (H 5m; Top diam. 6m) defined by a scarp with a berm around its base and traces of an external waterlogged fosse. No evidence of a bailey. Base of motte is cut at N by a small stream running E-W (Cunningham 1987, 131).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
