Why this matters
A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.
What is recorded here
On N slope of a low E-W ridge in former demesne land. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1915) as a tree-covered circular enclosure (D c. 30m). According to local information, the monument was levelled when the surrounding woodland was cleared some years ago. All that is now visible is a slight rise at NW which may indicate the line of a bank, and a shallow curving depression from E through S to WSW which may mark the line of a fosse. The interior is very uneven due to the removal of tree stumps.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
