Local tradition points to a prominent area of rock-outcrop, overlooking the Glashagal River to the S, as the site of a castle. The field is known as the 'Castle Field'. The area of outcrop is roughly circular (max. dim. 85m N-S) and slopes downwards from S to N. The drop to the river at S is quite precipitous. Outcrop is exposed at S where it was partially quarried in the past. There are no visible structural remains at ground level. The Down Survey map indicates a castle in the area of Nicholastown/Ballyoskill.
