In pasture, located at the base of an E–W ridge, bordering the N side of an expanse of reclaimed pasture that was once covered by Mullafarry Lough.
The 1838 OS Letters record two wells at Mullafarry Lough, ‘one of which is looked upon as a holy well, but it can not be well ascertained which of them it is…’ (O’Flanagan 1927, 176-7 (93-4)).
A rectangular spring-fed pool (c. 3-4m E–W; 2m N–S) defined on the N side by a kerb of stones, with an outlet channel (L 2m; Wth 1m) at the SE side. According to local information, the well is unnamed and is not known to be associated with any saint, but was renowned locally for the curative properties of its water.
