What is recorded here

Cill Buaine hides a circular hut with six-foot-thick walls and upright entrance slabs, yet local memory calls it a church site. Henry recorded the corbelled structure in 1957 before clearance debris and overgrowth buried its shape beneath a twelve-metre stony spread. The slope still holds both identities, a dwelling and a sanctuary, waiting for someone to sort the stones and reveal which purpose they served.

Not marked on the OS maps, this site, recorded by Henry as a ‘cellurach’ (KE088-034003-) (1957, 105), is locally known as a church site. It is located on the same slope as KE088-029004-, approximately 320m to SW. The features noted in it by Henry are difficult to identify because of its overgrown nature and the large amount of field clearance debris deposited within it. She recorded a slightly corbelled circular hut (KE088-034002-) , 18 feet (5.5m), in internal diameter, with walls 6 feet (1.5m) thick and an entrance defined by upright slabs. A stony spread, c. 12m in diameter, now occupies this position. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
