Four hut foundations still mark the ground inside the promontory fort, likely built during the 1579-80 conversion into a military position. They suggest soldiers or workers lived there temporarily, enduring weather and watching the coast rather than settling for generations. The huts may have held kitchens, storage or guard rooms, turning an ancient landmark into a functional outpost.

Within the promontory fort (KE042-002001-) are the remains of four hut sites (see plan in Cuppage 1986, 426, Fig. 235). These probably date to the 1579-80 when the fort was converted to a fortification (see KE042-002003-). Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 7 November 2017
