According to the Civil Survey (1654-56) Ballynesraha (Ballynestragh) and its ruined castle (WX007-039----) were forfeited by Sir Thomas Esmonde, who owned 3820 acres in Kilcavan parish, including the castle and manor house of Limbericke (WX003-024----) where he held 2000 acres at Limbericke, Tineshinagh (Tinneshinnagh) and Teilnerin (Killilierin?) (Simington 1953, 15). The lands were later recovered by the Esmonde family. The location of the castle at Ballynestragh is not certain but is thought to have been where Ballynestragh House was built in the 18th century.
