Why this matters

Inverness Castle was originally built by the MacKintosh clan in the 11th century and later held by the Scottish crown, becoming a key stronghold in the northern Highlands. It is important as a historic and administrative centre and for its prominent role in Scottish history, including its association with the Jacobite uprisings.
