Why this matters

HMS *Vandal* was a British Royal Navy submarine, lost in the Firth of Clyde in 1917. It sank during a collision with the cruiser HMS *Aurora*, resulting in the deaths of 13 crew members; the wreck remains a known site in Scottish maritime history.
