This blue commemorative plaque records: William Wilberforce 1759-1833 MP for Hull and leading campaigner in parliament for the abolition of slavery. Lived here at The Chestnuts between 1824 and 1826. Recorded plaque organisation: Hillingdon Council.
William Wilberforce was a British politician and leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade in the United Kingdom, significantly contributing to the passing of the Slave Trade Act in 1807 which abolished slavery throughout the British Empire.
