Redcastle is a ruined tower house on the Black Isle, built on the site of Ederdour, the fortress William the Lion erected in the twelfth century. MacKenzies held it from 1570 until 1790, but fire destroyed it in 1659 when Rory MacKenzie joined Montrose, leaving behind a roofless shell marked by a stone bearing R.M. and 1641. The building still stands as a listed monument, its walls incorporating fragments of older structures and two angular turrets that may date to the sixteenth century.
