Linked to a medieval chapel and a 17th-century rag well, the site reflects a tradition of pilgrimage and healing associated with leaving rags as offerings. The practice may have evolved from earlier Celtic Christian customs, where holy wells were believed to have curative properties for ailments such as skin diseases or rheumatism.
