Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Groat's Loch as Cairn (period Unassigned), Pictish Symbol Stone (pictish). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Pictish symbol stone, likely dating to the 6th–9th century AD; it is significant as a rare surviving example of Pictish art and iconography.
