Foulis Castle is a listed Highland mansion where the Munros have lived since the 13th century, though its bright neo-Classical rooms now cover older wounds. The house displays datestones from 1754, 1777 and 1792, yet darker fragments from the 16th and 17th centuries still crouch in its basement and courtyard. A sarking board taken from its roof was dated to after 1690, preserving a ghost of the building that fire or war may have consumed before the present walls rose.
