Dunnet Head is a prominent headland in the Scottish Highlands, composed mainly of basalt formed during the Paleogene period, around 60 to 55 million years ago. The rock was extruded as part of the North Atlantic volcanic province, and the area is notable for its dramatic coastal scenery and as the northernmost point of mainland Scotland.
