Ness Castle preserves a possible Bronze Age cist, unidentified prehistoric pottery and an unknown clearance cairn beside Urquhart’s later gunpowder-scarred towers. The place is not one castle but a layered pile of human claims: burial, discard, watching, fighting and deliberate ruin. That layering is what makes Loch Ness feel inhabited rather than empty.
