What is recorded here

Castle Tioram stands at Cur Doirlinn, Moidart, a 13th-century castle later shaped into a keep tower and domestic buildings. Its stones have watched the Highland sea for centuries, perhaps holding kitchens, chambers and quiet routines now lost. A bronze Hanging Bowl and an unassigned midden nearby hint that people gathered, ate and remembered long before the castle rose. The place still belongs to everyone’s imagination, even if no one lives there anymore.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Tioram as Castle (medieval), Midden (period Unassigned), Hanging Bowl (bronze)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Built by the MacDougall clan in the 13th century, Castle Tioram is remembered as a strategically important stronghold in the struggle for control of the Scottish west coast and the Inner Hebrides.
