Castletown Airfield served as a satellite to Wick during the Second World War, defending Scapa Flow until the last operational aircraft left in April 1944. Today grass chokes the concrete and the former decontamination centre holds cow manure instead of dangerous chemicals. The Bellman and T3 hangars have vanished, leaving only scattered huts and a quiet emptiness where engines once roared.
