Braal Castle stands in Halkirk as a reduced medieval wall, its blocked entry and broken top exposing five centuries of weather and forgetting. The stone does not explain itself, but it still marks the place where human hands shaped a boundary before modern maps existed. Whether the castle guarded a family, a road or a local claim is no longer certain, yet the wall remains clear enough to show that people once believed the site needed defending.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Braal Castle as Country House (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Braal Castle was a 17th-century country house associated with the Gordon family of Auchindoun. It is remembered for its historical connection to Scottish noble lineage and as an example of early Scottish domestic architecture.
