Redcastle stands on the Black Isle as a roofless shell marked by a 1641 stone, holding fragments of the Ederdour fortress William the Lion raised before MacKenzies lost it to fire in 1659. It is not merely a ruined wall but a layered chamber where Norman, Bisset and MacKenzie hands kept touching the same stones. The castle still invites imagination because so much of its life remains absent from the formal record.
