Dolbadarn Castle is a ruined Welsh fortress built by Llywelyn the Great in the early 13th century at the base of the Llanberis Pass. Edward I took the site in 1284 and stripped its timbers for Caernarfon, leaving the stone keep to stand alone above Llyn Padarn. Painters later came for its sublime shape, but the mountains still own the castle more than memory does.
