Castell Caernarfon is a medieval fortress in Gwynedd, Wales, where King Edward I replaced an older fort with grand stone walls in 1283. Its colourful bands mimic the Walls of Constantinople, linking the castle to the Roman fort of Segontium nearby. The castle resisted Madog ap Llywelyn in 1294 and the Glyndŵr Rising, but later became a stage for royal ceremonies rather than a weapon.
Castell Caernarfon is shown as a castle on the public map of Gwynedd. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
Built by King Edward I of England in the late 13th century, Castell Caernarfon was a key component of his campaign to conquer and control Wales. It is important as a symbol of English dominance and as a well-preserved example of medieval military architecture.
