Graveslab in Dundrum

Graveslab

Why this matters

Early Christian grave slab, 7th–9th century. Its significance lies in its incised cross motif, indicative of early monastic or ecclesiastical activity in the area.

What is recorded here

An Early Christian grave slab was recently exposed in the graveyard, fragments of which are kept in the present St Nahi's church (L1.64m, Wth 0.46m, T 011-12m). The slab features an incised Saltire (?) cross formed by two sets of three lines radiating from a central cup mark. The central cup mark is quite faint (D 0.05m) (Corlett 220, 139-143).
