Grattan holds a rath, which means a fort or enclosed place, yet no visible boundary remains on the open land. The name preserves the shape of a lost dwelling, perhaps a farmstead, shrine or seasonal camp that withdrew beneath grass and memory. What is missing is not nothing; it is the part the land kept private.
