What is recorded here

Half a century later a second stone joined the first, claiming reconstruction in 1763. Both dates sit high on the south wall like competing claims, neither erased, neither explained. The church kept both truths because stone does not argue. It waits for people to decide which year belongs to the building and which to the memory of the people who last touched it.

Placed high on the outer face of the S wall of the nave of Glaslough Church of Ireland church (MO007-014001-) is a stone with the date 1670 in false relief. It is accompanied by the statement ‘And Rebu / ilt in 1763’ on a separate stone produced in the same style. See the attached image Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 09/11/2016
