Crookston Castle stands as Glasgow's only surviving medieval ruin, a stone structure built around 1400 by the Stewarts of Darnley within much older earthworks. It endured cannon fire from Mons Meg and repeated sieges before becoming the first property acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in 1931. The castle may have witnessed the betrothal of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, beneath a yew tree later felled to carve a model now kept in Pollok House.
