Haggs Castle stands as a four-storey tower built in 1585 by Sir John Maxwell of Pollok and Margaret Conyngham, its door still bearing their carved names. The Maxwells later occupied it as a widow's house, and the basement became a smithy before Pollok House replaced it in 1753. It has since served as military quarters, flats, a childhood museum, and again as a home, proving that a castle is not dead merely because its purpose keeps changing.
