Megalithic tomb

What is recorded here

The monument, which has been destroyed, stood some 10m N of the northern extremity of a court tomb (SL035-062----). OS documents record a structure formed of upright stones at this spot in or about 1914 but it had been removed by 1952. A plan of the tomb (Wood-Martin 1883-4, 454, no. 13; 1888, 175, no. 13) shows an oval gallery (L c. 7m; max. Wth c. 3m) which seems to have opened to the N. In a brief account Wood-Martin claimed that the monument terminated in two circles though these are not illustrated on his plan. A wedge tomb (SL035-063----) lies c. 150m to SSW. (Ó Nualláin 1989, 65-6, no. 107) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 See linked document with details from Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume V. County Sligo. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1989)
